Our December has been super fun!

What a great December it's been!  We have been super busy with reading and writing poetry, practicing word study, writing about our secret places with a focus on the setting, learning about four  explorers (Columbus, Ponce de Leon, Cartier, and Newport), and working with money (counting, comparing, and making change!).

We have also has several special events.  First, we watched the 5th grade performance and learned a bit about famous composers!

Second, Mr. Henry talked to the students about his work on submarines.

Third, Mr. Campbell (Ella's Dad) came in to talk about Caspar David Friedrich and the art print titled "The Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog." Using oil pastels, students were asked to create their own "sea of fog" in a land which they were the explorer - See, we even plan Art Print around content!  :)

Lastly, we celebrated winter by having yummy treats (THANKS TO EVERYONE!) and making 3D snowflakes (AGAIN, THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!).  It was a huge success.  We actually have a few leftover goodies, so I'm saving those for a special treat after reorganize our classroom library.  - Yes, I plan to bribe them!  :)

Can you believe it is already mid-November?

Where has the time gone?  We are now really into the groove.  Students are finding that school is a but more fun these days because we are getting into some really interesting content.  I absolutely LOVE from this point forward!

You won't believe how much your kiddos have grown since the beginning of the school year.  They came in as "little ones," and are now working their way towards independence.  It is amazing to me the leap they've made.  Have you noticed it at home?

Students thanked the US Veterans by making a star for someone they know who is serving or has served in the military to aid our country in protecting our freedom!  Here is our tribute...

We had our first Art Print.  Mr. Campbell discussed The Great Wave with students, then had them draw their own wave with a prominent figure in the wave.  Some of them were very creative!

Please read through the different content tabs to find out more!

What a fun few weeks...

We have had so much fun learning the last two weeks!...and it will only get better as we move into super fun content coming up over the next few months!  :)  (Hopefully they will enjoy it as much as I do!)

We have been learning about new ways to solve addition and subtraction problems, as well as the ecosystems (environments) in which animals live.

There are sooooo many great photos, so be sure to visit the individual content tabs to see (and read) what's going on.

As you know, students were asked to create costumes based on something we've learned.  Check them out...

Enjoy!

Soooo many events happening! :)

We have had so much going on in the classroom lately!  We've been researching animals with books and computers, learning about different text features in non-fiction books, rounding numbers, and helping one another!

Most of this has been done through integration across the curriculum.  In reading groups, we've been identifying and using text features in non-fiction texts.  This helps us when we have a specific question about the animals we are researching for our writing unit.  Knowing the different text features will also help us create individual chapters on the animals we've researched in the upcoming weeks.  Our research has given us insight into the food chains and animal adaptations we've been studying in science.

Please read through the different tabs to further your understanding of what's been covered in class lately and what's upcoming!

Here are a few fun pictures of BEE Bop!  Students ran laps around the field with music as a helper!  Occasionally, I had some who stopped BEE Boppin' and walked with me.  Enjoy!
